Singer Natalie Cole, daughter of Nat King Cole has died, aged 65—the cause of death was reportedly congestive heart failure.
Natalie Cole was a chart-topping R&B singer who followed the steps of her legendary father, and churned out hits like “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” and “Unforgettable.”
Rev. Jesse Jackson on New Year’s Day tweeted; “Natalie Cole, sister beloved & of substance and sound. May her soul rest in peace.”
Before her death, Natalie had been forced to cancel a number of recent concert appearances due to health problems, including one scheduled for New Year’s Eve at Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
The singer leaves behind a son, Robert Yancy, from her first marriage to producer Marvin Yancy.
Natalie suffered from a number of health problems over the past decade, including liver disease and Hepatitis C, for which she received chemotherapy in 2008.
