Do's and Don'ts as fireworks go on sale in Idaho ahead of 4th of July

Fireworks are now on sale in Idaho, though fears of aerial fireworks sparking fires amid soaring temperatures remain high.

Fireworks legally can go on sale in Idaho beginning at midnight on June 23rd and must end by midnight on July 5th.

Aerial fireworks are illegal to set off in Idaho without a special license or permit, typically given to a jurisdiction or department for the purpose of putting on a city fireworks display. Confusingly, Idaho does allow retailers to sell aerial fireworks so long as they have customers sign an affidavit swearing not to use them in Idaho.

Idaho code defines nonaerial or common fireworks as those that do not leave the ground such as spinners, fountains, sparklers, smoke devices, and others, or those that remain near the ground and do not travel outside 15 feet in diameter and no higher than 20 feet.

Fire Departments across the state are also beginning to remind residents that fireworks pose a serious threat of sparking a fire. Combine that with extreme heat and dry conditions and the likelihood of sparking a fire due to fireworks rises exponentially.
